My Favorite Restaurants on Maui
People always ask me for recommendations and my personal favorites. This is so hard to do.
One of the drawbacks about Maui is that the foodie scene is quite limited due to its fluid tourism-based economy; and many restaurants are inconsistent due to a more transient population of workers. In my experience however, these places do a swell job of keeping it together. Cheers!
$$$ – Brunch at Duo at the Four Seasons in Wailea – Bottomless bloodies and mimosas and an extensive all you can eat buffet? Yes please. I’ll go there for a special occasion to leisurely enjoy the morning.
$$ – Brunch at Mala in Lahaina – Only on Saturdays and Sundays but worth the trip out there if you aren’t staying on that side. If you are staying on the west side, you have no excuse: you must go. Right on the water, it is excellent for a casual brunch, 9am-3pm so its served all day for the later risers as well.
$ – Breakfast at Fred’s Mexican Cafe in Kihei – I go here just for breakfast. Good bloody marys and breakfast quesadillas. Nothing fancy, but its a fun and inexpensive breakfast.
$ – Street Food/Fish Tacos at Horhito’s Taco Truck – my favorite place to stop for some quick and delicious fish tacos. On South Kihei Rd. Next to the 76 station.
$ – Lunch at Cafe O’Lei in Kihei – Must try the Fish Special of the Day. Consistent, great value, simple yet always delicious.
$$ – Lunch/Happy Hour at Tommy Bahamas – My favorites: Steak salad, Coconut cloud martini. Great lunch and cocktails, Happy Hour is great but sometimes a bit crowded.
$$ – Lunch/Happy Hour at Monkeypod Kitchen – My favorites are the Monkeypod Mai Tai and the Turkey Burger with Garlic Truffle fries.
$$ – Dinner/Late night at Sansei in Kihei – Must try the Crab Ramen. Great sushi too. Good deals during certain hours like early bird and late night on certain days.
$ – Dinner at Fabiani’s in Kihei. – Simple yet awesome house salad, great desserts! Lilikoi Roulade is a must try. Great for a casual dinner.
$$ – Dinner at Honu – This is my favorite restaurant on maui for dinner. Great seafood and wine that wont break the bank. Right on the water for killer sunsets. Must try the mussels and grilled octopus.
$$$ – Dinner at Ferraro’s at the Four Seasons in Wailea – Most romantic restaurant on Maui. On a clear night, you are underneath the stars by candlelight listening to the violinist play while you sip on some fine italian wine and nibble on charcuterie.
"We had Chef Galvan and his team serve us (and 2 friends) a "tasting menu" style dinner for our Wedding Anniversary on December 5, 2013. What a wonderful experience! They were so professional and yet down to earth and humble at the same time. The food was simply delicious! ... I would absolutely recommend Chef Galvan to anyone who inquired!"
